Gran Selezione Canto Dieci | 2019

Gran Selezione Canto Dieci | 2019

In the tenth canto of the Inferno, Dante refers to the Arbia River – which defines the eastern boundary of our property – as red during the Battle of Monteaperti between Florence and Siena in 1260. The wine sets a new course for our best Sangiovese, and this is the landmark of our estate that inspired its name.

Canto Dieci has been described by Decanter Magazine as “Beautifully concentrated, blackberry and licorice fruity with layers of smoky complexity and a light touch of well-blended oak,” awarding it “Highly Recommended” status in its evaluation of over 300 Chianti Classico producers.

Harvest Notes

Unlike the extremely difficult 2017, 2018 was a balanced year, with well-timed rainfall and ideal weather conditions. The summer was hot, yet still punctuated by cool nights, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and with complexity.

The work done each year in the vineyard has truly begun to bear fruit, with increasingly smooth and silky tannins. This is perhaps the first year in which our Sangiovese has truly begun to display the character we've always sought: fruity, supple, powerful, aromatic, and savory wines.
Anche il Cabernet ha dato ottimi risultati, con intensi aromi di frutta scura, potenza e tannini levigati.

Harvest Notes

At the time, 2016 was the best vintage in our short history. The climate was ideal all year, with rain and clear skies at just the right times, without any event that could stress the vines. The harvest was wonderfully slow and gradual, allowing us to make three selections of Sangiovese, most of which were decidedly top-notch.

The Cabernet was also spectacular. All in all, a fantastic vintage.
