Chianti Classico | 2021

Chianti Classico | 2021

Chianti Classico is the wine that best expresses our terroir, the fruit of centuries of tradition upon which we are proud to build. Our work in the vineyard and careful selection result in smoother, easier-drinking wines, better suited to today's consumer tastes. The 2018 blend couldn't be more traditional, primarily Sangiovese with a small percentage of the native Canaiolo variety, which lends the perfect element of freshness. Certified organic.

Harvest Notes

2021 was a year of contrasts. The main event was a frost on the morning of April 8th, with temperatures reaching -7°C in our lower vineyards, where we lost much of our production.

All the high-altitude Guyot-trained vineyards were minimally affected, thanks to the diversity of altitudes, soils, and training systems we use, which once again bore fruit. The Cabernet, ripening late, was unaffected by the frost and was exceptional.

Harvest Notes

2020 was an unusual vintage, characterized by grapes that ripened very early and very quickly. It's unclear whether this was the result of a spring frost that affected about 15% of the buds in April. September was warm, with a small percentage of overripe grapes, which were carefully harvested and vinified separately to avoid compromising the quality of subsequent harvests with aromas of cooked grapes.

Despite the erratic weather patterns, the end result is exceptionally balanced and expressive wines, perhaps the best Sangiovese vintage produced up to that point. The only sour note is the Cabernet. The Sangiovese is as great as the Cabernet, which is why the Dianne will not be produced this vintage.

Harvest Notes

After the challenging 2017 vintage followed by the balanced 2018, 2019 was certainly a step forward, despite the climate being very similar to 2018. A warm summer refreshed by thunderstorms led to a perfect ripening season, with mild days alternating with cool nights providing the subtle touches that distinguish a great vintage. The wines are impactful and extroverted, yet balanced, with intensity and concentration juxtaposed with balance and fresh acidity, crisp fruitiness, and soft, silky tannins. An exceptional vintage and wines that beg to be enjoyed.

Harvest Notes

Unlike the extremely difficult 2017, 2018 was a balanced year, with well-timed rainfall and ideal weather conditions. The summer was hot, yet still punctuated by cool nights, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and with complexity.
The work done each year in the vineyard has truly begun to bear fruit, with increasingly smooth and silky tannins. This is perhaps the first year in which our Sangiovese has truly begun to display the character we've always sought: fruity, supple, powerful, aromatic, and savory wines.
Anche il Cabernet ha dato i suoi frutti, con intensi aromi di frutta scura, potenza e tannini levigati.
