Gran Selezione Canto Dieci | 2018

Gran Selezione Canto Dieci | 2018

In the tenth canto of the Inferno, Dante refers to the Arbia River—which defines the eastern boundary of our estate—turning red during the Battle of Monteaperti between Florence and Siena in 1260. This wine sets new standards for our excellent Sangiovese, so we drew inspiration for its name from this emblem of our estate. This wine is the result of the most rigorous selection of our finest Sangiovese plots. Our vinification is entirely dedicated to the wine, and we give it the time it needs to mature and develop.

HARVEST NOTES

Unlike the very difficult 2017, 2018 was a balanced year with well-timed rainfall and ideal climatic conditions. The summer was warm but still characterized by cool nights, allowing the grapes to ripen gradually and with complexity. The work we've done in the vineyard each year has truly begun to pay off: the tannins have become increasingly softer and silkier. This is perhaps the first year that our Sangiovese has truly demonstrated the character we've always sought: fruit-forward wines that are smooth, powerful, aromatic, and saline. The Cabernet also impressed with intense dark fruit flavors, power, and soft tannins.
